Today we began learning about lines and angles.
An angle is where two lines meet. The angle is the amount of turning between the two lines that meet.
We learnt that parallel lines are the same distance from each other and they never meet.
Perpendicular Lines meet at right angles.

Last week, Maddy from Barwon Coast came to talk to us about butterflies, caterpillars and how important they are for our environment.
We learnt……
That you can tell what kind of butterfly a caterpillar is going to turn into by its colours.
That caterpillars come out of a chrysalis.
If you touch their wings their scales come off and they can’t fly.
Some butterflies only live for 2 weeks, some for 6 months.
They need to have something to hang off to make their chrysalis.
They are attracted to bright colors.
Butterflies are cold blooded.
Today we met Maddy at our butterfly habitat and planned where to plant some indigenous plants that the butterflies like. The plants are kangaroo grass, wallaby grass, tall blue bells, pale swamp everlasting daisy, wattle mat rush and drumsticks.

What was the best thing about your room?
For our final day we fed the horses and donkeys. Then we went on a hike to a dam where we went
yabbying.
Have you been yabbying before?
On Tuesday night Ken Hook came and we learnt how to do bush dancing. It was really fun and we got to dance with everyone!
What did you enjoy the most about bush dancing?
On Day 2 we did more fun activities which included archery, mini golf, ropes course, initiatives, shelter building and bush cooking. Mrs Kebbell took the nature’s art activity and there are some photos below.
What was your favourite activity at camp?
At Coastal Forest Lodge the meals were delicious! We got to sit with our friends and each group had a turn as “duty group” which meant cleaning up and being waiters and waitresses.
Which was your favorite meal?
On Monday the Grade 3s headed of to Anglesea for camp! After a stop and play at Torquay we arrived at Coastal Forest Lodge. We spent three days there. We did heaps of different activities and we focussed on our You Can Do It Keys to success. Everyone achieved success and we all had a wonderful, memorable camp! Here are some photos.
What did you discover on the Eagle’s Nest hike?
Today we went to the dunes near 30W of 13th Beach. We met Bret there. Bret works for Barwon Coast and he explained to us the importance of revegetating the sand dunes back to their original state.
We planted some native grasses in an area that had been made into a path. WE had to dig really deep holes and then we put special water crystals into the hole with the grass to keep it watered.
After that it was time to form a human chain and drag some branches up the dune and place them on the path for protection. It was really hard work but everyone cooperated and did a great job!!
Why is it important to protect our sand dunes?
Our Learning Focus in Reading this week is synthesising. When we synthesise, we combine what we already know with what we are reading to gain new understandings or ideas.
