Take 3 for the Sea
Today Tim Silverwood came to talk to us about protecting our environment – specifically the sea.
His organization is called Take 3 for the Sea and the following information is from their website.
The ‘Take 3’ message is simple: take 3 pieces of rubbish with you when you leave the beach, waterway or… anywhere and you have made a difference.
Marine debris, particularly plastic, has a disastrous impact in our oceans on marine life and, ultimately, us. We can greatly reduce the amount of marine debris in our oceans by preventing it from getting there in the first place! We encourage people to Refuse disposable plastic, Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle and respond by picking up rubbish.
What did you learn from Tim’s talk today?
Morning walk
This morning I went for a walk and marveled at the sky!
In writing our focus is the “Word Choice” trait.
3A came up with the following descriptive sentences before working on their own entries.
“Stunning, red sky rising from above. More colors coming in gently. Colours like mixing paint. The air was still like a statue. It smelt muggy, almost fishy. I felt a soft, warm breeze blowing ahead of me.”

Persuasive Posters
Today group 9 made posters to persuade the public that they need to go to the Bellarine Aquatic Centre. Mr Roskosch judged them. Our posters are now on display so make sure you look at them when you next visit the aquatic centre!

The Maths in Swimming!
Where’s the Maths in swimming is the question that group 9 were asked to investigate and investigate they did! The Maths areas identified included measurement (kms, cms), time, shape, distance, mapping, angles, data as well as many, many more!
The students (aka Mathematicians) worked in teams of a mix of grade 3-6. Here are some of the posters.

Seed and plant investigation

Today 3Aand 3B investigated plants and seeds.
We asked lots of questions and made many connections!
we wondered why these two plants looked so different and what they were!
Some of us measured seeds, sketched or wrote what we knew or what we were wondering.
What would you like to investigate? What did you find interesting?
Blinky Bill – Our garden buddy
This term 3A will explore plant life cycles through the unit, Plants in Action. As part of this unit, we would like to learn about the gardens of students in our class. One activity is ‘Garden Buddies’, where Blinky Bill, our class mascot will travel home with students on a rostered basis to investigate gardens.
The Garden Buddies travel pack contains:
- A journal
- A garden buddy: Blinky Bill
What the Garden buddy will do during the visit:
Each student will have our Garden Buddy (AKA Blinky Bill) visit for 2 consecutive nights (three over the weekend). Blinky Bill would like to explore your home garden or another garden you may choose.
When the Blinky Bill is visiting, the journal is available to record information such as:
- The types of plants in the garden
- How the plants are cared for and the jobs that are done in the garden
- Photos or drawings of your garden with you or your garden buddy in them
Here are a list of ideas of activities that you might like to do with Blinky Bill when he visits your house/garden:
- Introduce the Garden Buddy to your family and show them around your garden
- Write a list of the plants that you can see
- List the jobs involved in caring for your garden
- Take a photo or draw a picture of your garden
- Have Fun! You may see or think of something else you would like to include, feel free to do so!
Please remember to return Blinky Bill to school on the appropriate day! We look forward to hearing about your garden!

Hi everyone and welcome to 3A’s blog for 2015!
This will be our forum for sharing some of the great things going on in our classroom!
Our year has got off to a great start. Last week we got to know each other while doing “You Can Do It” activities. This week and next week we are spending the afternoons with a multiage class while we attend swimming lessons at Ocean Grove. It’s fun and tiring!
