What makes a good information report?

When exploring information reports we decided that the following elements were really important:Planning (using a graphic organiser)

Title

Introduction (general statement/classification/description of what report is about)

Paragraphs to organize information (3 or more sentences per paragraph)

Topic sentences at the beginning of each paragraph

Sentence Fluency (long and short sentences)

Conjunctions (to make some sentences longer)

Facts

Technical words

Summary ( to tie all of the information together)

Revision using ARMS – Add, Remove, Move, Substitute

Editing using CUPS – Capitals, Understanding, Punctuation, Spelling

An annotated information report about Day and Night

You will notice that the students of 3A did a great job of using the important elements listed above in their Information Reports.

What do you think is the most important element of an information report?

House Athletics Day at Landy Field

Today we had our annual house athletics day at Landy Field.

It was the first time that the Grade 3s had participated.

Everyone tried their hardest and participated in all of the events – it was fun!

Hope you were as proud of your effort as I was!

Great work 3A!!

Art Walk

Today at Barwon Heads Primary School we had our annual “Art Walk”.

This is a special day when each class makes an Art work which reflects a particular genre of Art.

This year the theme was the Art of different cultures.

3A made art works based on “molas” which are a type of design that the Kuna people of Panama use to decorate their clothes and jewelery. We learnt that the Kuna people try to live a traditional life and that their country is located between North and South America.

Thank you to Mrs Peterson who went to a great deal of effort organising the day!

Summarising

For the past two weeks we have been working on “Summarising” fiction and non-fiction texts.

Our skills have developed considerably. It is important to be able to summarise as it assists with working out the main idea and comprehending texts. Knowing how to summarise also helps with writing Information Reports.

This is a poster that we have in our classroom to assist us with summarising fiction and non fiction texts.
