Alliteration

This week we have been learning about how to write different forms of poetry. One of the Poetic Devices that we can use is called alliteration. Alliteration is a series of words, occurring close together in the phrases or lines of poetry that have the same first consonant sound.

We wrote these poems this morning. Hope you enjoy them!

Jono Juggles Jiggly Jugs while Jumping on jealous Jelly fish

 

Lily likes luscious locks,

Luscious locks like Lily,

Luscious locks and Lily,

Like licking lollipops.

Luscious locks Ly, ly, ly.

 

Angus annoyed angry alligators,

And ate an aardvark

 

Archie ate apples, arrows and axes all the way to America.

 

Valla vacuumed vein up to Vegas Valleys. Vanilla at Valla’s beach is very good.

Valla valts venom vice, va, la, la.

 

Max’s monkeys might munch Mitch’s monkey’s macaroni.

 

Billy banged bananas,

Balls banged Billy,

Basketballs banged benches,

Bridges banged ballerinas.

 

Hazel’s happy horse has a humungous harness.

 

Gracie got gorgeous Greta.

Germany got gorilla Ginger.

 

Johanna Jaguar Jellies Jam and Jaffles.

 

Tess’s tortoise teaches trouble making toads to tadpoles.

May made magnificent mango meals.

Education week

Welcome to our classroom! It was so much fun having many of our parents visit us today. We looked at the Mathletics website and saw some of the activities that can be done at home. Then students read a piece of poetry. After that we played  a Maths game with money.

What at was the best thing about having parents/grandparents visit us today?

Money

Learning about money has been lots of fun this week!

We made our own lunch order and worked out what we would buy with $10.00.

We played shops with 3B. We had $10.00 to spend and we had to add coins together and work out change. At the end we added our purchases together – spat least one person ended up with more money than they had to begin with!

NAPLAN

I have been so proud of the way in which all of the students in 3A have approached the NAPLAN test this week! Everyone has tried really hard and done their best. It has been nice to have some time to relax and have fun after the tests too! Yesterday we wrote a compliment to someone else in our class and we read the lovely, positive compliments in our buckets to remember all of the wonderful qualities we each have and the many things that we are good at! 3A have approached this week with big smiles and buckets of happiness!

Which You Can Do It Key did you use this week?

 

Wadda Wurrung

The Wudda Wurrung people have lived  and cared for the area we live in for hundreds of years.

We learnt a little about the evidence of the life they lead when we visited the Lobster Pot.

The wedge tail eagle is the totem of the Wadda Wurrong people, they call the eagle Bundjil.

There are middens in the sand dunes of 13th beach. These middens look like piles of old shells and they are actually remnants of places where the Aboriginal people gathered to eat shellfish and other foods together.

Many of the Wudda Wurrang people lived in stone and timber houses that looked similar to this one.

There are many words that we use today that are taken from the Wudda Wurrang language. For example, Geelong is taken from Djillong which means tongue or land of peninsula. Connewarre means black swan.

All of this information has come from a book called ” The Wadda Wurrung People. Did you know?” Which was designed and produced by Jo Whitehead. This book is in our class library and you are welcome to borrow it if you are interested in learning more about our local Aboriginal people.

narrative writing

This week we practiced writing Narratives within a time limit to prepare for the NAPLAN next week.

When writing Narratives we need to remember to include:

Beginning: Where (Setting), Who (Characters), When (Tense-usually the past)

Middle: Complication/problem

Ending: Resolution (problem solved)

It is also helpful to use the 6+1 Traits of Writing (conventions, organisation, voice, word choice, sentence fluency and conventions).

Questioning

This week our learning focus in reading has been to ask questions before, during and after reading. We ask questions while we are reading because it gives us a better understanding and helps us to comprehend texts better.

Happy 3A

by

3A have all worked so hard this week. It was nice to be able to go outside and appreciate the beautiful sunshine on a couple of occasions this week and now we are listening to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons while illustrating our Writing. While we work hard, we are all very appreciative of our surroundings and try to take time out to “smell the roses” and enjoy being together. I took this photo of the clouds this morning.
